A Guide For What To Wear

One of the questions I get asked the most leading up to a sunset beach photo session is about what to wear! I love when clients and I discuss attire, it gives me the opportunity to explain how different colors and styles will play into the look and feel of the photos I deliver. Clothing and accessories are one of my favorite ways to capture individual personalities within a family beach photo session.

White and Pastels

Looking for simple, clean, bright family beach photos? Selecting light and pastel colors might be the best option for you and your family! This style lends itself to bright, warm family photos that highlight the stunning sunsets we get here on St. Pete Beach. When selecting an outfit, pick whites, neutral pastels, light khaki and washed denim. Avoid dark blues, blacks, dark khaki and deep colored jeans to ensure you and your family compliment one another as well as the sand, water and sky that surrounds you.

Pop Of Color

Do you like the light and pastel look but wish there was a little more personality? Building off the light and bright look, you can add a pop of color to your family's attire. Pick a color that you all enjoy and find a way to add it to your outfit. This option can be so much fun and really allows your family beach photos to stand out. As with the previous look, I still recommend you avoid the dark colors in order to keep your photos feeling warm.

Accessories

I love to encourage accessories when speaking to a client that have an upcoming beach photo session. I recommend bringing along an item or two that we can incorporate into your session. Feel free to get creative with this one, it can be anything from your favorite beach hat, to a kids toy they won't leave home without. One of my favorite photos from the last few weeks came from a session where the dad had on his cowboy boots. These accessories will add a personal touch to your photos that you will cherish for years to come!

Prepare For A Little Wind

Although just about every day is sunny here on St. Pete Beach, chances are, there will be a breeze during your sunset photo session. Just keep this in mind when you are picking outfits for both you and your little ones. If you're constantly trying to keep your outfit in check, it can limit the total number of photos you’ll receive from your session.

Feel free to dress it up

Looking for classic, timeless photos? Do you enjoy the opportunity to dress it up? Feel free to do just that for your sunset beach photo session! These sessions are so much fun, I’m always looking forward to my next opportunity to shoot a dressed up session. I recommend keeping your colors on the light side, avoiding blacks will keep your photos warm and bright.
